Anand is a 1971 Indian drama Movie it stars Rajesh Khanna in the lead role with a supporting cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Ramesh Deo, Seema Deo and Sumit Sanyal. The film co-written and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and dialogues was written by Gulzar. Anand is also one of the only two films that Khanna and Bachchan have co-starred in the other being Namak Haraam, which was also directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

It is the highest rated Indian film on IMDb. It was the 3rd highest Bollywood grosser of 1971 and it was box office super hit movie and also won several awards, including the Filmfare Award for best Film, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor,Best Dialogue, Best Editing, and best Story. It was listed in Anupam Chopra‘s book 100 films to see before you Die.

Both Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor were offered the lead before Rajesh Khanna. The character of Anand was inspired by Raj Kapoor, who used to call Hrishikesh Mukherjee”Babu Moshay”

The lyrics were written by Gulzar And Yogesh, and the music score and songs were composed by Salil Chowdhary.Although Kishore Kumar had become the voice of Rajesh Khanna since The success of Aradhana.Once when asked which song was his favourite , Rajesh Khanna Said it was Mukesh’s song ‘Kahin Door jab Din Dhal jaye “ from Anand

The film’s hit songs include  Kahin dur  sung by Mukesh, in which Anand reveals something of his own inner sorrow over a lost love, and  Zindagi kaisi hai paheli sung by Manna De and song  picturised on the Arabian Sea-shore under a glorious blue sky.

Film Expert says that Mukherjee shot the film in 28 days. The screenplay of Anand was written by Gulzar who also wrote dialogues and lyrics of a few songs. Later Anand was remade in Malayalam, with the name of Chitrashalabham starring Jayaram and Biju Menon
