Bharathiraaja hosts online prayer for SPB

It seemed like a melting pot of emotions online when members of the film fraternity got together online to pray for the speedy recovery of playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam. SPB has been admitted in the hospital for over a week now and continues to be on life support. Even as wishes poured in from across the world, film personalities called for a five-minute prayer at 6pm today.

As veteran director Bharathiraja hosted this prayer session online, he was joined by reputed directors, actors, producers and singers. “We are one big family. We need to get together to pray for one of us. Let Balu get up from the hospital, come back and sing again” began an emotional Bharathiraja. While senior actor Sathyaraj said that it was because of SPB that he had an image makeover from a villain to a hero. “People saw my songs because of him.”

Actor Prabhu said that though SPB is a reputed singer, he is also a good soul. “He is such a gem of a man that he deserves this and more. “ In agreement with Prabhu was actor Parthiban. “He treats everyone equally and that’s the best thing about him.”

Music composer Gangai Amaren, in the meantime, he was in touch with SPB during the lockdown. “It was only recently that he told me that it has been a while since he saw Bharathiraja and had complained that Bharathiraja had not called me. I had told him that he had gone to Theni and that he would get back and call him.”

Actor Thangar Bachan, on the other hand, said that just like people got back Puratchi Thalaivar through MGR through a mass prayer, we should also bring back SPB. Veteran actor-director SA Chandrasekar said that he was hoping for a miracle. The meeting also included Saroja Devi, Sivakumar, Ameer, Sarathkumar, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Mano, Chithra, Kalaipuli Thanu and KS Ravikumar to name a few.
