Bharathiraja requests Vijay Sethupathi to opt out of Muthiah Muralitharan biopic

Bharathiraja is the latest to join the list of celebrities who have requested Vijay Sethupathi to drop Muthiah Muralitharan biopic. Vijay Sethupathi has been under pressure after signing 800, which will be about the life of legendary cricketer Muthiah Muralitharan. A number of people have been against the actor playing the Sri Lankan cricketer in the film as it hurts the feelings of Sri Lankan Tamils.

Bharathiraja in a latest statement requested Vijay Sethupathi to drop the project. The statement said, ‘It is difficult to create a good reputation among the public, but people have poured their love to you very quickly. Your humble and casual attitude and the way you reflect the feelings of general public is the reason. I wish you to keep growing as an actor. I heard about your film 800, which is the biopic of Muthiah Muralitharan. Muthiah Muralitharan didn’t condemn the killings of Tamils, he supported the genocide of Tamils.’

“Though he has achieved a lot as a cricketer, but he kept silent when the genocide happened, what is the point of all his records? Muthiah Muralitharan is a traitor. People are asking me why Vijay Sethupathi wished to be part of the project. I request you on behalf of all Tamilians all over the world to opt out of the project. If you do that you will receive the support of Tamilians all over the world. Why should people see your face representing a traitor for years to come? Please see if you can avoid acting in the film.’

The film is directed by MS Sripathy. Sam CS is composing music for the film.
