Black is a 2005 Indian Hindi-language drama film it was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starring Rani Mukerji and Amitabh Bachchan. The film draws inspiration from the life of Helen Keller, the blind academic and activist. The movie was inspired or remake of the 1962 movie The Miracle Worker.

It was released on 4 February 2005, it was a commercial success and becoming the second highest grossing Indian film worldwide in 2005 and the highest-grossing 2005 Indian film overseas. , Its net income was ₹23.19 crore Later it was remake produced in Turkey in 2013 titled Benim Dünyam.

Black Shows darkness in a frightening, confusing, frustrating place, a whirlwind of emotion and anger. Michelle McNally was born to an Anglo-Indian family, is deaf and blind. She is a bright and intelligent girl and she lives in the world of black and this frustrates her because she desires to speak. Therefore, because of her frustration she becomes harsh and cruel on numerous events. Until she meets Debraj Sahai character a teacher to the deaf and blind children. On encountering Michelle, Debraj realizes that the only way to tackle her is to distress her, be violent at times and at the same time, show her the love.

Debraj dreams of Michelle going to a college with students without any disability. But, at this stage, Debraj starts to suffer from Alzheimer. He slowly forgets everything including all words and their meanings. The roles are now reversed

Film was selected as one of the 10 Best Movies of the Year 2005 from around the globe.Indiatimes movie ranks the movie amongst the 25 Must See Bollywood Films

Initially A. R. Rahman approached to score the music, but he had to refuse due to busy schedules.The film’s music was then composed by Monty Sharma, Black has only one song, “Haan maine chookar dekha hain”, performed by Gayatri Ganjawala.

Black won the filmfare Award for best film and Amitabh Bachchan received his National Film Award,    Filmfare Award and Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor and Rani Mukerji won Filmfare Award and Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress.
