DD: Vadivel Balaji was a pioneer in imitation

Popular comedian Vadivel Balaji passed away earlier today. The actor was unwell for the last two weeks. Balaji shot to fame through his stint in television, and was seen in several popular shows, including Kalakkapovadhu Yaaru. He was even shooting for Mr & Mrs Chinnathirai once television shoots were granted owing the pandemic situation. But his death has shook the industry and many celebrities are taking to social media to pour in their condolences.

Popular television personality and actor Dhivyadharshini aka DD has worked with Balaji for several years. An inconsolable DD spoke to us about working with him, “My association with Vadivel Balaji go back a long way. He was a happy person and I loved interacting with him. We used to have so much understanding when we hosted shows together. He never used to prepare, and always, ‘Naamaa paathukulam’. Today, there are lot of people who are doing stuff like he does. But when he started, Balaji was a pioneer in imitation. He had so much respect for people. I used to irritate him often and we’ve shared some fun moments while working. We used to exchange a lot of voice notes and I was talking to him even until July. He was such a nice man. His demise is truly shocking. Too young to go. Just to think that I won’t be hearing his voice again hurts a lot,” says an emotional DD.
