Actor Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming film with Kabir Singh director Sandeep Reddy Vanga is reportedly titled Devil. The film is reportedly a dark thriller that was initially offered to Mahesh Babu, who turned down the offer.

Vanga has experience dealing with dark characters. His films are Arjun Reddy and its Hindi remake, Kabir Singh — both films were about an alcoholic with anger issues. Kabir Singh in particular received widespread backlash for glorifying reckless behavior. Actor Shahid Kapoor described the character as his darkest yet. Similarly, Devil will reportedly be the darkest character of Ranbir’s career.

Despite the poor reviews, Kabir Singh was a box office success, raking in over Rs 270 crore, making it the highest grossing Bollywood film of 2019. Vanga isn’t the only controversial director Ranbir has associated himself with. He has signed on to appear in Sonu Ki Titu Ki Sweety filmmaker Luv Ranjan’s next film. According to the recent reports, Ranbir Kapoor has been reported to be replaced by the Bahubali fame actor, Prabhas.  According to the earlier reports, Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga were reported to be collaborating for the Arjun Reddy director’s next. However, producer Bhushan Kumar denied having zeroed down on any actor for the project. Media reports suggested that Sandeep Reddy Vanga was set to make a crime drama titled, Devil, in association with T-Series and that the makers had cast Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. The film has eventually fallen into Prabhas’ kitty. The reports also suggest that Prabhas has read the script and given his nod for the same as well. Earlier, Bhushan Kumar confirmed about the film and told that it is still in the scriptwriting stage. Bhushan Kumar also said that they would announce the movie to the masses once the scriptwriting is over. Bhushan Kumar also said that since the film is in its scriptwriting stage, no actor has been approached for it yet.

Earlier it was Ranbir Kapoor who was said to have been locked for the movie, he backed out and (possibly) given way to Bahubali and Saaho fame actor Prabhas. Prabhas was ready to fill in for Ranbir since he found the plot dark and challenging.

Talking about Devil’s main lead, Bhushan said during a media interaction, “We are doing the film. But no one actor has been finalized. He is still writing the script. When it’ll be ready, we will officially announce it. No one has been approached yet.” The movie was said to be offered to Mahesh Babu who declined it since it did not cater to his audience.
