Do Aankhen Barah Haath (1957)

V Shantaram’s Movie Do Aankhen Barah Haath was written by G.D Madgulkar, G. Balkrishna has handled the cinematography and editing was done by Chintamani Borkar.

V. Shantaram and Sandhya in a lead role with supporting cast Baburao Pendharkar, B.M Vyas, Paul Sharma, S.k.Singh, Gajendra, G. Ingawale, Chandarkar, Tyagraj, Asha Devi, Shankarro Bhosle and Samar.

Music was composed by Manna Dey and Vasant Desai, and the Lyrics were written by Bharat Vyas, The music was very good and the best song was undoubtedly the “Ai Malik, Tere Bandhe hum.

Later the film was remade in 1975 as the Tamil language as Pallandu Vazhga and in 1976 as the Telugu language as Maa Daivam. Indiatimes Movies ranked the movie amongst the Top 25 Must-See Bollywood Films.

 It won a Golden Bear Award at the 8th Berlin International Film Festival and a Golden Globe Award in the new category Samuel Goldwyn International Film Award for best film produced outside of the United States.

The story was based on a young girl who working as a warden in a jail, she takes six murderers out of jail to try and prove that they could function working their own fields and taking care of their own farm despite their evil pasts.

The movie always remembered for the song “Aye Maalik Tere Bande Hum” which was sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Lyrics was written by Bharat Vyas.
