Every film has its journey and there are a lot of changes that keep taking place right till the end. But every filmmaker worth their salt would agree that getting the casting right is half the job done.
But be it over date issues or script problems, a lot of directors don’t get their wish fulfilled. Subhash Kapoor lucked out. The filmmaker had wanted Richa Chadha to play the titular role in his upcoming film. ‘Madam Chief Minister’ after watching an interview of hers. “He thought she would be perfect for the role of the powerful political figure around whom his film revolves,” divulged a source close to the development.
However, it took a while for Richa to come onboard because Katrina Kaif was interested in the role too. The source goes on to reveal how the actress reached out to Subhash, asking to be considered for the role. “She’s been part of Prakash Jha’s political-thriller ‘Rajneeti’ and was looking for an out-and-out female-led project. So, when she heard of the film Subhash was making, she recorded an audition tape on her own and sent it to him,” added the source.
Since the filmmaker had already envisioned Richa in the role and was convinced that only she would be able to pull off what he had in mind, he decided to go ahead with his instinct. “The physicality, look, diction was all very integral to the part and Richa got every nuance right,” the source pointed out.
