Vinay Pathak who made his Bengali debut with a crucial role in Arindam Sil’s ‘Mitin Mashi’ will soon be seen in a Bengali short film. Titled ‘Rerouting’, it’s being directed by Kankana Chakraborty who has garnered a lot of appreciation with two of her short films last year titled ‘Written By?’ and ‘Anurup/Mirror Image’ respectively starring Kankana herself and Sabyasachi Chakraborty.
Kankana is eagerly waiting to start the shoot of ‘Rerouting’ as this is the first time she will be directing Vinay Pathak. Kankana herself is also playing an important character along with the seasoned actor.
“Rerouting is a story of two polar opposite individuals who happen to cross paths over a night. They end up rerouting each other’s lives. The question that rises at the end is whether that is the right route for them or not? In life we come across several such individuals. Both the parties without their conscious knowledge might end up rerouting each other. But how many times do we really understand it? This was the basic seed idea of re-routing. I pitched the story structure to my co-writer, Prarthana Joshi. She echoed the same thoughts and thus we ended up developing the story,” revealed Kankana in an exclusive chat with ETimes.
The story revolves around a young Girl, Kuhu (played by Kankana Chakraborty) lonely, and desperate to be seen, try her hand at driving a ‘rideshare service,’ (Eazee). This is her first time driving a Car. She manages her night fairly, until she agrees to do one final ride. Her passenger this time is a disoriented old man, Avinash( played by Vinay Pathak) . As the ride starts, a series of incidents create a Claustrophobic situation that reveals the real Avinash. What rollercoaster ride has the night in store for these two individuals?
Vinay Pathak, too, is elated to be a part of the short film as he shared with us why he’s onboard: “The first and the foremost reason for working on this new film by Kankana is her unique vision of storytelling. She’s a wonderful writer and actor but most importantly a very able young and talented director. The script of this particular film is unique, and very interestingly laid out. It’s wonderful to see how in every film of hers that she writes or directs, she manages to invent an interesting spin to the tale. It’s refreshing, and challenging for an actor like me , who’s constantly looking for new things and characters to explore. I am very excited to be a part of this short.”
The shoot will start soon after Vinay Pathak reaches Kolkata. The cinematography of ‘Rerouting’ is being handled by Mridul Sen who has already worked with Kankana in her two previous shorts. Chitra Chakraborty is producing this interesting short.
