Let’s travel back in time and relive one of the biggest box office clashes. October 2016 witnessed a heated fight of films as ‘Shivaay’ and ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ hit the screens together. While ‘Shivaay’ was Ajay Devgn’s action-thriller promising some action sequences, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ was a romantic drama that brought together an interesting – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Sharma, and Ranbir Kapoor. Check out our #FlashbackFriday video of the week to know all the details about the ugly spat!
Ajay Devgn made ‘Shivaay’ on a grand scale and released three trailers simultaneously, a first for an Indian film. Apart from this, Ajay not just essayed the lead in this action drama but also directed it! ‘Shivaay’ also starred Abigail Eames, Sayyeshaa Saigal, and Erika Kaar in pivotal roles. The film won the 64th National Film Award for Best Special Effects in 2017. Interestingly, Ajay Devgn broke his no-kissing rule for this movie and locked lips with co-star Erika Kaar
On the other hand, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ saw Karan Johar return as a director. This sweet and intense love story was packed with hit tracks. Also, in comparison to all the previous Johar movies like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum’,’Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ and ‘Student Of The Year’, the characters in ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ had naturalistic screen presence. Not everyone knows but Karan made sure that every film he directed, since ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, would feature his lucky charm Kajol in at least a cameo. That rule went kaput as ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ released in 2016, which also seemed to be an obvious reason after the big clash between Karan’s film and Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shivaay’.
