Packed with trademark Bhansali visuals, dramatic background music, stylised frames, a touch of glamour and dialogues that pack a punch, the teaser had fans hitting the replay button, wanting more. Soon after the trailer released, fans flooded Twitter with their first-hand reactions. One thing was clear, that after a box office drought, fans were brimming with excitement to see the visual masterpiece and Alia Bhatt’s grown up, fierce and fiery act.
Besides calling it Alia’s best performance of her career, many even went ahead and declared ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ a “blockbuster.”
‘Gangubai’ releases in cinemas on 30th July, 2021.
Based on the book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ written by S. Hussain Zaidi, the film showcases the rise of a girl named Gangubai Kothewali, who was sold into prostitution and went on to become one of the most powerful and reviered matriarchs from the red-light area of Mumbai’s Kamathipura area. Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ marks the first collaboration between him and Alia. This project will also see Bhansali Productions collaborating with Jayantilal Gada’s Pen India Limited.
