Gayathrie Shankar is one of the most promising talents in Kollywood today. The actress who made her debut in 2012 with ’18 Vayasu’ and later won praises for her second film, ‘Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom’, has been making her presence felt in the industry since then. Last year, she was part of the multi-starrer ‘Super Deluxe’ and also ‘K-13’. The talented actress has been quite involved in short films, too. Interestingly, she has even directed one, recently. Talking about it, on her social media page, she writes that it has won a short film contest. And she writes how the entire team overcame challenges and shot it on the day of the submission.
Gayathrie and her team submitted their short film, Road to Thumba, for a contest called Indian Film Project. According to the post that Gayathrie shared on her social media page, a team gets 50 hours to write a script based on the theme given, shoot, edit and submit the final product. But Gayathrie recalls that the team faced many challenges from starting the shoot a day late to losing the location they were planning to shoot due to the pandemic. She adds that they shot the entire thing on the day of the submission. She also credits the entire team for trusting her and working under so much pressure, and she says that it was truly an exhilarating experience. Finally, when the results came, she writes, it won gold in the mobile category.
Interestingly, another short film of hers, ‘B Selvi & Daughters’, in which she acted has made it to the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. The short film captures the essence of a mother-daughter relationship.
