Randhir Kapoor turned a year older today. Members of the Kapoor family came over to wish him at his residence last night. Among the ones spotted were Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Riddhima, Kareena, Saif, Karisma and her kids. After thanking us for wishing him, he said, “It was a small meet-up. A solemn affair. There was no celebration. We are missing my younger brother Rajiv. He passed away last week due to heart attack. It was a shocking, sudden death. We are yet to come to terms with it.”
The two were photographed together at the Kapoors’ Christmas lunch just a month ago. Rajiv was doing well, wasn’t ailing at all and so the untimely loss has gutted the Kapoor family. “He wasn’t unwell. He was fine and so the death is harder to accept. But we need to take things in our stride. What other choice do you have”, says the elder brother.
A popular movie database website describes Rajiv as the least known son of showman Raj Kapoor. When we speak of people not knowing Rajiv as much, Randhir says, “People didn’t know much about Rajiv because unfortunately, he wasn’t successful and that’s the saddest part. He was a wonderful human being — warm and affectionate. Of course, not everyone can be Raj Kapoor but that’s how it is. That’s how life is. People want to know about you when you are successful.”
The last two years have been tough on the Kapoor family, who had to endure the loss of various family members. Looking back, Randhir says, “That’s destiny I guess. This is a part of life. If you get the good things, you must endure the tough times also.”
Life and death are part of our journey and the grandpa is looking forward to the birth of his daughter Kareena’s second child. “I an extremely happy for her and I am looking forward to seeing my grandchild. That is one thing I am looking forward to.”
