Johnny Gaddaar written and directed by Sriram Raghavan produced under the banner Adlabs Films Ltd, editing was done by Pooja Ladha Surti, and cinematography was done by C.K Muraleedharan.
It stars Neil Nitin Mukesh and Rimi Sen in a lead role with supporting cast Dharmendra, Zakir Hussain, Vinay Pathak, Ashwini Kalsekar, Dayanand Shetty, Govind Namdeo, Vyjayanthi Rashika Joshi and Shankar Sachdev.
It was released on 28 September 2007 and it has grossed ₹6.7 crore at the box office in India.
Music was composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and lyrics were written by Jaideep Sahni, the soundtrack consist of eleven songs, the vocal is provided by Suraj Jagan, Akriti Kakkar, Shanker Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani, Loy Mendonsa, Hard Kaur, Anousha Mani, Gulraj Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Shilpa Rao, Sabiha Khan, and Geetanjali.
The Film won Filmfare Award for Best Sound Design to Leslie Fernandes, IIFA Award for Fresh Face of the year to Neil Nitin Mukesh, Star Guild Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role to Neil Nitin Mukesh, Zee Cine Award for Special Award for Neil Nitin Mukesh and also won Apsara Film And Television Producers Guild Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role to Neil Nitin Mukesh.
The movie is about a gang whose members are involved in some kind of shady deals. One such deal promises the gang a lot of money, but one member of the gang is lured by the ‘Whiff of Money’ (Another JHC novel which Neil Mukesh is reading in the train) and began to hatch his own secret plans, leading to unforeseen situations for the group. Things go wrong when his plans go astray.
The story is based on five gang members Seshadri (Dharmendra) is a leader of the gang, Prakash (Vinay Pathak) is the casino-club owner, Shardul (Zakir Hussain) is the businessman, Shiva (Daya Shetty) is the strong man and Vikram aka Vicky (Neil Nitin Mukesh) the youngest member of the gang who wants to become rich quickly and he plays Johnny Gaddar.
All of them put Rs.50 lakhs to buy a consignment from a Bangalore based Police Inspector Kalyan (Govind Namdeo). Shiva is sent to deliver the money from Bombay to Bangalore via train. Vicky plans to rob the money so that he can run away with Shardul’s beautiful wife Twinkle (Rimi Sen). In doing so he kills Shiva and unmasks him before going unconscious. Now Sheshadri, Kalyan, Prakash, and Shardul one-by-one, find out Vicky’s truth and are killed by him in cold blood.
Performance-wise Neil Nitin Mukesh was simply outstanding he deserves all the praise for enacting his complex, Dharmendra as leader of the gang was brilliant, Vinay Pathak and Zakir Hussain are all brilliant in their roles, Rimi was good in her short role and rest supporting cast was good.
