This movie was made in 1959, Guru Dutt was the Director and the producer of the Film and he also played the lead role in the film with Waheeda Rehman with supporting cast Mehmood, Kumari Naaz, and Johnny Walker.

The film’s won two filmfare Awards including Best Cinematographer Awards to V.K.Murty and Best Art Direction Award to M.R. Acharekar

The story of a film concerns a film director Suresh Sinha (Guru Dutt) who separated from his wife but not divorce because his upper class family did not approve of a man involved in the film industry. They have one daughter who sent to a private boarding school in Dehradun, one day coincidently he met a poor woman Shanti (Waheeda Rehman), to star in his new film. The two of them develop a special relationship that approaches love, afterwards his daughter, Pammi (Baby Naaz), enters the picture.

The daughter cannot stand to see her father fall for another woman, so she convinces Shanti to quit after the film is done. Shanti leave her carrier and become a school teacher in a village, unfortunately Pammi custody given to her mother, departure of shanti and losing her daughter Suresh addicted to alcohol and his career has almost finish, meanwhile Shanti was forced to return to film, her producer are agree to hire Suresh but Suresh self-respect won’t allow him, so she was unable to help him, in the Last scene, he remembers his past, he dies in the director’s chair, a lonely and forgotten man
