Om Raut, who had made his directorial debut in Marathi films with ‘Lokmanya Ek Yugpurush’ announced his next ‘Adipurush’, starring south superstar Prabhas. His last outing ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’, which also marked his debut as a director in Bollywood did well at the box-office.
While the film is still is in pre-production, ‘Adipurush’ is touted to be a magnum opus and expected to be an adaptation of Ramayana. Interestingly, his previous two films have also been period dramas. The film will be made in five languages including Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. Soon after Raut made the announcement on his social media by sharing the poster at 7.11 am on Tuesday, wishes poured in from his friends and colleagues from the Marathi film fraternity.
While ‘Dhappa’ director Nipun Dharmadhikari reacted saying, ‘awesome’, Amruta Khanvilkar commented, “Ommmmmmmmmmmgggggggggggggg omiiiiiiiii this is next level.” (sic)
Siddharth Jadhav conveyed his best wishes by tweeting, “Kammaaalllll bhaiiii @omraut bhavaaaa… all the best verryyy besttttttt.” (sic) Suyash Tilak, Sonalee, Prasad Jawade, Nachiket Barve, Sharad Kelkar among many other wished Raut for this upcoming magnum opus. Om’s debut Marathi film ‘Lokmanya Ek Yugurush’ was a biopic on freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak and released in the year 2015. Subodh Bhave played the protagonist in the same. Raut’s ‘Tanhaji’ that had Ajay Devgn playing the titular role, too had a strong Marathi connect. Besides the story, which was based on Maratha warrior Tanhaji Malusure, the cast had some well-known names from the Marathi cinema including Sharad Kelkar and Devdatta Nage etc
