Mahesh Manjrekar gets Rs 35-crore extortion threat; man arrested from Ratnagiri

Bollywood and Marathi cinema’s popular actor-director has filed a complaint against an unknown man at Dadar Police station about receiving messages demanding Rs 35 crore.

Reportedly, the man claiming to be a member of Abu Salem’s gang had messaged the ‘Dabangg’ star demanding Rs 35 crore. While speaking exclusively with Etimes, Mahesh Manjrekar said ” I got a message on 23rd August demanding Rs 35 crore. So, I had filed a complaint against this at Dadar police station. Now, the officials have arrested the culprit”

Cops comment

Speaking to Etimes, Police Inspector, Arvind Pawar (from Anti-Extortion Cell) said ” we have arrested a 34-year-old man from Khed, Ratnagiri for threatening Bollywood actor Mahesh Manjrekar through message and calls. During the investigation, we found that accused runs a tea shop in Khed. Due to lockdown, he was going through tough time and to earn good money he made a plan to extort money from the complainant”.

Modus Operandi

“The accused did a lot of research on social media to know how Abu Salem’s gang work. And messaged the complainant demanding Rs 35 crore as a member of Abu Salem’s gang. He had also called the complainant to threaten him but Manjrekar didn’t receive his call. During the investigation, we traced his location when he was trying to call the the complainant. We have arrested the accused under section 385 (Putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extor­tion) and 387 (Putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) of the Indian penal code” said PI Sachin Kadam (from Anti-Extortion Cell).

Meanwhile, on the work front, Mayesh Manjrekar will be next seen in Sachin Kundalkar’s ‘Pondicherry’. It also feautres stars like Vaibhav Tatwawaadi, Sai Tamhankar, Amruta Khanvilkar, and Neena Kulkarni in key roles.
