Mimi Chakraborty reveals her Durga look for Mahalaya

Mimi Chakraborty had a good time shooting for Mahisasur Mardini, which will be aired on a private Bengali channel. The actress plays Ma Durga for the first time in the special show which is being directed by Kamaleswar Mukherjee. “For the first time I am playing Ma Durga,” said a visibly excited Mimi to Calcutta Times. “It was definitely a divine experience for me while we were shooting. From my childhood, I have grown up watching this special episode of Mahisasur Mardini on television on the day of Mahalaya. It was challenging for me too as I have to meet the audience’s expectation as the actors who played Ma Durga in the past have been excellent. This time we had incorporated new dance forms and actions in this special episode. I hope the audience will love it.”

However, meeting the audience’s expectations was not the only thing that had Mimi worried. “I was worried whether I would be able to pull off the action and dance sequences with so much jewellery and heavy sari. But Kamal da said we did it well. The best part of working with Kamal da is that he is extremely sorted and explains a scene very vividly to his team and that makes our job easy. Shooting in this new normal was a different experience but the studio where we shot was huge, social distancing was strictly maintained,” said Mimi. She added, “The best part of this shoot was the ray of hope that Ma Durga is on her way and I am sure that the pandemic situation will improve. The whole atmosphere and the ambience of the shoot gave us the special puja feeling and literally we all started praying to her for a corona-free world.”
