Nayan Shukla: My character in 'Masaba Masaba' was a complete shocker for everyone who knows me

You might remember her as Masaba Gupta’s meek secretary from the series ‘Masaba Masaba’, but Delhi girl Nayan Shukla is far from being a shy person in real life. “That character was a complete shocker for everybody who knows me. I am somebody who does not stop talking, and the character was very meek and not so confident. I genuinely worked on my craft,” says Nayan.

Nayan, who moved to Mumbai in 2016, is a graduate in Mass Communication from IP University. She shares “I always wanted to be in front of the camera, but did not know in what capacity. Things are a little more defined now. I have also done theatre for five-six years, which was intense. But I think acting is something which comes with practice. You have to keep learning; you have to keep adapting every single day. It does not work any other way.”

The actress, who will now be seen in a film by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, shares that she has always been experimental in life. “For me, taking up this career was like an experiment. Like, chalo dekhte hain kya hota hai. I do a lot of voice overs for a living, I do anchoring and it’s fun. I do things dil ko khush karne ke liye, not in pressure,” she tells us.

Ask about her future plans and she says, “I have been approached by some great people in the industry after the series. I want to be hopeful that sab achha ho jaye and I do a big chunk of roles, or leads for that matter. Everybody wishes that but I don’t have anything concrete to say ki yahi hoga.” Anyone in her wishlist that she wants to work with? “Zoya Akhtar,” comes the reply. “Everybody wants to work with her. She is someone I genuinely want to work with. You look at the cinematography and think this is some fairy land that I want to be a part of,” Nayan gushes.

Not just in her professional life, things are moving forward in her personal life too, as Nayan recently had her roka ceremony. “I was lucky to have come back to Delhi in February. My father was going to Canada and my mom can’t stay alone. I planned to be here for two weeks, but I could not go back because of the coronavirus pandemic and I got rokafied during this time. This also gave me the chance to spend some much-needed time with my family,” she shares.
