Directed by Madhvani, written by Saiwyn Quadras, and Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh and it was produced by Atul Kasbekar, Shanti Sivaram Maini, and Bling Unplugged under Star Fox Studios, the cinematography was handled by Mitesh Mirchandani, Editing was done by Monisha R Baldawa.

It stars Sonam Kapoor in a title role with supporting cast Shabana Azmi, Yogendra Tiku, Shekhar Ravjiani, Kavi Shastri, Sadh Orhan, Abrar Zahoor, Jim Sarbh, Ali Baldiwala, and Waqar Khan.

It was released on 19 February 2016, made on a total budget of ₹20 crores it has grossed est. ₹135.52 crores at the Box office, the film as well as Sonam Kapoor performance received a positive response around the world, and it also became the highest-grossing Bollywood movie featuring a female protagonist.

Government of Maharashtra and Government of Madhya Pradesh declared the film tax free in their state, the film was banned in Pakistan because it shows the negative image of Pakistan.

Vishal Khurana has composed the music and Prasoon Joshi was written the Lyrics of the movie, all songs are very touching and straight from the soul.

The film won two National Awards for Best Feature Film and Special Mention and also won six Filmfare Awards including Best Film, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress.

Story-wise the film is based on the life of Neerja Bhanot who was shot dead by terrorists when trying to save 3 children’s life who hijacked Pan Am flight 73 in Karachi on 5 September 1986. The aircraft was carrying 361 passengers and 19 crew members. What happened on the flight during the hijack is what the film is about.

Her mother told that Neerja was prettier than Sonam. Yes, the photographs in the end credits give the approval to this statement. A girl, aged 23, lost her life while saving the passengers during her job.

Sonam is the heart and soul of the film, she has given career-best performance. Shabana Azami acting was real and natural, the actors playing the terrorists totally look their part, especially the one playing Khalil, the angriest terrorist, has done a fantastic job. He looks like a pure terrorist.
