The whole of summer, especially May, is the golden month for the film industry as they line up exciting films for releases during this time.
The summer holidays ensure the family crowd trickles in and results in bigger box office success. However due to the global novel coronavirus pandemic, many Telugu films that were to hit screens have been put on hold. While the future is uncertain, few filmmakers are planning to strike a deal with OTT platforms as they’ve seen a sudden rise in digital traffic due to lockdown.
Speculations are rife now that Kranthi Mashav’s pan-Indian multi-starrer with Anushka Shetty and Madhavan in lead roles, Nishabdham, will be released on OTT since days. While the filmmakers initially brushed it off as rumours, a source confirms, “The team is in discussion with an OTT platform that’s ready to give them a handsome deal but it’s not finalised yet. Whenever the decision is taken if the film will get a direct OTT release or if they’ll wait for theatres to reopen, they will announce it.”
Earlier, a Telugu film called Amrutharamam also got a direct digital release on an OTT platform. On Friday, it was announced that Keerthy Suresh starrer Penguin will also have a digital premiere soon in Tamil and Telugu. Nishabdham was slated to hit screens on April 2, so the fate of the film remains to be seen.
