R.Balki‘s Pad Man based on Arunachalam Muruganantham’s life, and the film focuses on the aspect of menstrual hygiene in India. It stars Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in a lead role with supporting cast Jyoti Subhash, Mrinmayee Godbole, Riva Bubber, Urmila Mahanta, Parul Chouhan, Soumya Vyas, and Big B’s appearance was quite a surprise.
Written by R.Balki and Swanand Kirkire, produced by Twinkle Khanna, SPE Films India, Kriarj Entertainment, Cape of Good Films, and Hope Productions under Columbia Pictures, Mrs. Funnybones Movies, and Sony Pictures Releasing, the cinematography was done by P.C Sreeram and editing was done by Chandan Arora.
It was released on 9 February 2018, and it was becoming a commercial success at the box office as well as the tenth highest-grossing Bollywood movie of 2018, made on budget ₹35 crore it has net grossed est. ₹207.73 crore at the box office.
The film won National Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues and Two Indian Film Festival of Melbourne for Best Director to R. Balki, and Best Actor to Akshay Kumar.
Amit Trivedi has given the beautiful music and Kausar Munir written the Lyrics, the soundtrack consists of five songs, the vocal provided by Arjit Singh, Mika Singh, Amit Trivedi, Rani Kaur, Yashita Sharma, Jonita Gandhi, and Yashika Sikka.
Story: it revolves on the Lakshmi (Akshay Kumar) a simple, uneducated man living with his mother, two sister, and newly wedded wife Gayatri (Radhika Apte), one day suddenly he notices the women in his village are suffering periods even in his family due to the lack of affordability for those sanitary pads, Lakshmi decides to change that by producing napkin pads but his idea leaves the villagers in doubt and gives them the feeling of embarrassment and shame because of the religious aspect of the issue where menstruating women are supposed to isolate themselves and live outside the house during the cycle (mostly in rural India) because they are considered impure. The whole plot has a social message and creates awareness amongst men and women. How Lakshmi changes that is basically what this film is about
