Had everything gone as planned, Padmini Kolhapure would have been celebrating Karva Chauth, like every other year, at Anil Kapoor’s house, with his wife Sunita Kapoor playing the perfect host. However, Padmini had a party recently to celebrate her birthday at a venue outside her residence, and hence, plans to stay home, and celebrate the festival with her sisters.
Talking about the Karva Chauth celebrations in the film fraternity, she says, “Back in the day, Jeetuji’s (Jeetendra) wife Shobhaa bhabhi used to host a fabulous get together for Karva Chauth. She was such a gracious host and would ensure all the women who turned up had a blast. Neetuji (Neetu Kapoor), me. Kiran (actor Sujit Kumar’s wife), Pinkyji (Pinky Roshan, filmmaker-actor Rakesh Roshan’s wife) and a whole bunch of us would come together at Jeetuji’s house in Bandra and celebrate. Then, my husband and I moved to Juhu. Anil and Sunita graciously extended the invitations to us and we were happy to celebrate the festival together with them.”
Padmini adds, “For years now, we have all come together and celebrated Karva Chauth at Anil and Sunita’s house. I’ve not seen a better host than Sunita Kapoor in my life. I mean, she ensures that the menu has something unique for each one of her guests. It’s all in order, not a thing out of place. Katha hoti hai, phir pooja hoti hai and then the endless wait for the moon to show up in the sky begins. Sometimes, we would end up on Anupam Kher’s terrace, sometimes on someone else’s. Bas chaand dikh jaaye. Uske baad, we would complete the rituals at jet speed and have dinner together. I’m missing that this year but health and safety are more important. So, I’ll see my friends next year.”
