Puri Jagannadh talks about Flop Films in his latest podcast: “Industry surviving because of them”

From suicides to marriage, travel to traditions and women to parenting, Telugu film director Puri Jagannadh has been addressing a wide range of topics in his podcasts kicked-off in July titled ‘Puri Musings’. While celebrities across the country express their personal opinions on social media and interviews, the ‘Pokiri’ director has turned to podcasts to voice his views. Several members of the film fraternity like Allu Arjun have already heaped praises on Puri for his hard-hitting philosophy on life in these audio clips.

In his latest podcast, the 54-year-old ‘Pokiri’ director talked about flop films and how they are the major source of income for actors, technicians and workers in the industry. He said “Nobody would purposely make a flop film. Almost 90% of movies released every year are ending up as flops. Film journalists tear apart these projects with their reviews and due to this, the concerned producer will leave the industry. The hard truth is that the film industry is surviving because of the 90% flop films.”

“Though the film ends up as a flop, it provides work to hundreds of people and also pays the required tax to the government. My sincere request to reviewers is to save these flop films, not successful ones. Though you might be frustrated, the concerned producer has provided income for many people. So, please give an additional star in your rating as it might help him to sell satellite rights. Don’t consider them as enemies and not to forget that due to these films only, several magazines, papers and websites would get the needed revenue. I also urge reviewers to not do FDFS updates from theaters as it would hamper the performance of a film,” Puri added.

UMUR actor Satya Dev heaped praise on the podcast and wrote on his Twitter handle “Dedicated to all the ‘flop movies’ on which this industry thrives. Especially loved this line sir @purijagan ‘ a flop producer and a flop director are the real heroes who feed 100 families”

At present, Puri Jagannadh is prepping up to resume the shoot of his upcoming Hindi-Telugu bilingual film ‘Fighter’ with Vijay Deverakonda. Starring bombshell Ananya Panday as the leading lady, the Hindi version of the actioner is presented by Karan Johar through his Dharma Productions and the first schedule got wrapped up in Mumbai before the lockdown.
