Subhashree Ganguly and Raj Chakrabarty’s son Yuvaan tasted rice for the first time on February 22. The intimate ceremony of the five-month-old took place at Raj’s Halisahar residence and only close friends were invited. “We wanted to do Yuvaan’s annaprasan in a big way, but since I lost my father last year, we aren’t supposed to celebrate anything for a year. So, we just did the rituals where Yuvaan had his first morsel of rice from his grandfather (Subhashree’s father),” Raj told us. The director added that since it’s not advisable to have large gatherings in the current scenario, they only invited close friends and a few relatives. “We plan to have a gathering later when the situation improves a bit. Subhashree wanted to have the ceremony at Halisahar because it was my father’s favourite place and I grew up there. She had decorated the whole house and the lawn with marigold flowers; it looked beautiful,” he said, adding that Subhashree cooked the payesh for Yuvaan herself.
When asked about the menu at the rice ceremony, Raj said, “It was a Bengali spread. We had koraisutir kochuri, pulao, alor dom, potoler dolma, chanar dalna, beckti paturi, prawn malaikari, rui machher kalia, chutney and payesh.”
