Rajinikanth's Annaatthe update: Talks with Jackie Shroff were on, but...

While there is buzz that Jackie Shroff, who played the villain to Vijay in Bigil, will be playing the baddie in Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe, we hear that the actor is yet to sign on the dotted line for this mammoth project.

Apparently, the team had indeed reached out to the Bollywood actor, but this was before the lockdown. When we reached out to a source close to Jackie Shroff for a confirmation, the source told us, “The production had approached Mr.Shroff for a film with Rajni sir before the lockdown. But I’m not sure if it was the same film. But ever since then, nobody has connected for any kind of followup.”

It is to be noted that recent Rajini films have had Bollywood actors playing the antagonist’s role — Nana Patekar in Kaala, Akshay Kumar in 2.0, Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Petta, and Suniel Shetty in Darbar. If Jackie Shroff comes aboard this project, it will mark the fifth consecutive time a Bollywood actor has played the villain to Rajinikanth.

The star cast of this Siva directorial includes Nayanthara, Keerthy Suresh, Khushbu, Meena, Prakashraj, Sathish, Soori and Goerge Maryan with D Imman composing the music.

The shoot of the film, which was originally slated to hit screens for Pongal 2021, has been halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, and sources tell us that the Superstar is likely to resume shooting for his portions only by January. The latest buzz is that the makers are hoping to release it for Deepavali 2021.
