Ramayan

Ramayan has been one of the most epic stories from Hindu mythology. It has been re-created a lot of times over the last few decades and it never gets old. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, some of the old TV shows are back on television and Ramayan is one of them. The TV show that stars Arun Govil as Lord Ram, Dipika Chikhalia as Sita and Sunil Lahri as Lakshman has found a new fanbase in the youth of the nation. Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan was first aired in 1987 and was immensely popular back then as well. Ramayan has been topping the charts for the last few weeks and it has recreated a new world record.

The official handle of DD national tweeted out revealing that Ramayan has been named as the most-watched TV show in the month of April. “Rebroadcast of Ramayana on Doordarshan smashes viewership records worldwide, the show becomes most-watched entertainment show in the world with 7.7 crore viewers on 16th of April,” the official handle of the channel tweeted.

It has reportedly broken the viewership record of Game of Thrones whose finale garnered 19.3 million viewership in a day. What an amazing feat, don’t you think? Ramayan was originally aired from January 25, 1987, to July 31, 1988. To help the audience pass the time, the channel started the re-run of the show twice a day. After Ramayan was completed they began airing Uttar Ramayan that narrates the story of Luv Kush in the same time slot.
