Randeep Hooda: If every business is opening, so should the theatres keeping safety in mind

Theatres have not been permitted to open in Unlock 4 by the government, citing rising number of Covid-19 cases. With zero revenue for the past six months, the theatre industry has incurred massive losses. Those missing the big screens have been tweeting about #SupporMovieTheatres #ilovetheatre, #SaveCinema and #SaveIndianCinema, expressing support for theatres to open across the country.

When asked about the situation, Randeep Hooda told Bombay Times, “Theatres have opened in a lot of places across the world. Tenet released recently on the big screens and it is getting a good response abroad. But for the consumption of movies to start, the manufacturing of movies needs to restart as well. I am sure the Producers’ association and the Government will come up with a solution that would be a balanced one. I am not sure when the theatres should open as a lot of preparation needs to go into it. I cannot comment on that but if everything is opening, so should the theatres, keeping safety in mind.”

The actor who is recovering from a surgery explained, “I hope the film industry gets back on its feet as soon as possible. It employs millions of people. Their livelihood depends on it. The film industry also entertains and engages millions of people. We have realised the value of entertainment all the more during lockdown. The movies and wonderful content on OTT kept us going. Art is integral to our survival. I hope we get back on track and contribute to people’s bread and butter including mine. Entertainment fills the void in our lives.”
