Saaransh was the Mahesh Bhatt’s Movie it was released on 25 May 1984, it was produced by Tarachand Barjatya under Rajshri Productions, A deep Tandon has handled the cinematography, editing was done by David Dhawan.

Anupam Kher and Rohini Hattangadi in a lead role with supporting cast Soni Razdan, Madan Jain, Alok Nath, Akash Khurana, and Nilu Phule.

The movie won three Filmfare Awards including Best Actor to Anupam Kher, Best Story to Mahesh Bhatt, and Best Art Direction to Madhukar Shinde and also won National Awards for Best Lyrics to Vasant Dev.

Lyrics were written by Vasant Dev for that he won the National Award and the music was given by Ajit Verma. Movie has only two songs Andhiyara Gehraya Suna Pan Phir Aaya” sung by Bhupinder Singh and “Har Ghadi Dhal Rahi Sham Hai Zindagi” which was sung by Amit Kumar

Anupam Kher gave his heart and soul and gave such a flawless performance as a middle-aged retired headmaster, Rohini Hattangady also does a great job, Soni Razdan was perfect and decent and rest of the cast was good.

This story was based on a headmaster B.V Pradhan (Anupam Kher) and his wife Parvati (Rohini Hattangadi) who have lost their young son in some riots in New York, they are unable to digest the fact that they have lost their son and he will not come back ever, both of them finds no hope in life and cannot see themselves dealing with the situation. The wife does not lose faith in God and is convinced that her son will be reborn soon as suggested by a respected pandit. They have short of money, and they both decided to give their late son’s room to a paying guest then actress Sujata (Soni Razdan) moves into their house as a paying guest, she’s having an affair with Vilas, the son of an influential politician. She becomes pregnant with Vilas’ child but his father unwilling to accept them at that time Pradhan and his wife help her.
