Bollywood producer Sandip Ssingh who was also a friend of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, on Wednesday, filed a defamation suit against a television channel for falsely calling him a ‘key conspirator and murderer’.
The notice sent on 14 October by Sandip’s lawyer Rajesh Kumar records the numerous instances when Republic TV and its editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami, allegedly defamed him. Calling it a “propaganda to malign” Ssingh’s image, the notice claimed that the sole motive was to “extort money and grab TRP.”
Announcing the move on his official social media account, Sandip claimed that members of the news channel sent him several messages “with criminal intent and intent to extort.”
The producer has also sought Rs 200 crore as compensation and asked for an apology for the allegations and even airing “false footage”.
Sharing the notice on social media, Sandip wrote, “It’s Payback time.”
It’s Payback time @republicworld
The notice asks the channel to remove all the malicious footage, articles and reports about Sandip and to tender an apology, which should include ‘true facts’ about his integrity.
If the notice is not adhered to within 15 days, Ssingh has warned that the proceedings would be filed in court seeking damages for defamation.
Last month, Sandip had challenged all those who accused him of being a ‘drug peddler’ to produce evidence.
“I never smoked a cigarette in my life and have not even tasted a drop of alcohol. But people declared me a drug peddler. Let them produce a single proof of it. I challenge them,” he had told ANI.
