Sayantika Banerjee: My workout regime has changed a lot

When Sayantika Banerjee first saw the news about gyms reopening last month she was overjoyed as she had to spend the lockdown months working out at home.

“I’d even go for a walk, jog or cycle inside my complex at times, but the feeling of working out at the gym is unmatched. The gym ambience gives me a high of another level. My dad and I are spending a lot of time at the gym, but we are mindful of all the precautions that one must take to keep the virus at bay. From frequent sanitisation to social distancing to small batches – gyms are leaving no stone unturned to make us feel safe. For now, I’m avoiding high-intensity cardio workouts inside the gym because you can’t do that while wearing a mask, which is the need of the hour. As part of my personal safety regimen, I keep my own sanitiser, towels, gloves and masks in the gym kit. My workout regimen has changed since now there is limited time allotted to each member. So, I try to pack in as much as I can in those 45 minutes,” the actress shared with ETimes during an exclusive chat.

Most of Sayantika’s cardio workout happens in the open area these days. “I know that a lot of people are still hesitant about going back to the gym. While keeping safe is our top priority now, we can’t do it at the cost of our health, and not everybody can manage to stay fit when they’re cooped up in their house. And this is the time when health – physical as well as mental – is being treated as wealth more than ever before. I’ve noticed so many new faces in my society taking to morning or evening walks ever since the pandemic hit us,” she added saying if people can step out to work, why not we make that exception for our health as well.
