Soumitra Chatterjee’s neurological condition worries doctors

Despite testing negative in his second COVID-19 test, Soumitra Chatterjee’s neurological problems continue to worry doctors. The medical team treating him thinks it might take a prolonged period for the thespian to recover completely.

His oxygen saturation remains adequate, but his involuntary movement, agitation and restlessness has made the doctors thinking about consulting a neurology expert. Although his consciousness is a bit down than what it was last week, Soumitra’s condition is stable for the last two days.

The medical team tried to find the exact reasons behind his encephalopathy (disease affecting brain functions) but except the direct infliction of COVID there’s no other reason. Infection of any metastasis (the spread of cancer cells to new areas of the body), any structural deformities have also been ruled out. Doctors believe it’s because of the extended COVID-19 encephalopathy.

However, Soumitra Chatterjee’s organs are functioning quite well and he hasn’t been given oxygen for the past few days. Doctors have completed high dose of steroid as well.

The legendary actor had to be admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata on October 6 after he tested positive for Covid-19. Soumitra was recently shooting for a web series in the last week of September. He had also wrapped up the shoot of Parambrata Chatterjee’s Abhijaan. Soumitra was also shooting for a docu-feature.
