Karan Johar’s most ambitious project, Takht is set to release on December 24, 2021. “Takht” is a historical drama about the Mughal rivalry for the throne between Aurangzeb and his brother Dara Shukoh. The film stars Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor. Produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar & Apoorva Mehta.
While it was revealed to us earlier that Anil Kapoor plays Shahjahan in the film, with Ranveer, Vicky and Kareena playing his heirs, here we have the exact details of who plays who in the film. If reports are anything to go by, Ranveer will be essaying the role of Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Shahjahan, while Vicky will be stepping into the shoes of his younger brother Aurangzeb. Kareena will be seen playing Shahjahan’s daughter Jahanara Begum.
Alia will reportedly play Ranveer’s wife Begum Nadira Banu in the film, while the role of Aurangzeb’s wife Dilras Banu Begum will reportedly be played by Bhumi Pednekar. And finally, Janhvi Kapoor, is expected to be seen as a slave girl in the epic. The film, is based on the fight to the finish for the Mughal throne. The principal photography for the film was done in March.
Karan shared a small teaser video, which showed a golden throne and a voice over is heard saying: “Mughal shehzaadon ke liye Takht ka raasta apno ke taboot se hokar jaata tha. Agar yeh raasta mohabbat se hokar jaata toh shayad Hindustan ka itihaas kuch aur hota.” The movie will be released on Christmas, 24.12.2021.”
