Noted actress Ashalata Wabgaonkar passed away on Tuesday morning at a hospital in Satara after having tested positive for COVID-19. The actor was admitted to a Satara-based hospital and was one of the 22 people from the team of ‘Aai Majhi Kalubai’ who tested positive for Covid-19.
A source from the channel confirmed the news and shared that the actress had come to the sets to discuss her role and that’s probably when she contracted the virus.
Alka Kubal, who was close friend of Ashalata tai, was by her side in the hospital, shared the source.
This is the first time since shooting resumed that such a large number of team members have tested positive for COVID-19 on the sets of a single Marathi show.
Twenty-two people, including a few actors and crew members, from the team of the Marathi show tested positive. Following this, the shoot of the show, which recently went on air and features Alka Kubal, Prajakta Gaikwad and Vivek Sangle among others, was halted for a few days. According to sources the shoot of the show stopped on September 15, after 22 people from the team tested positive. While the team earlier was shooting near Satara, the shoot has now shifted to Mumbai’s Film City.
Born in Goa, Ashalata completed her education from a school in Girgaon. Later she completed her MA in Psychology from SNDT Women’s University. In early days she was into government service but later she left the job and took up acting as a career. She started her acting career with theatre. The actress had worked in over 100 Hindi and Marathi movies like ‘Apne Paraye’, ‘Janjeer, ‘Namak Halal’, ‘Sharaabi’, ‘Maherchi Sadi’, ‘Vahinichi Maya’, ‘Umbartha’, ‘Sutradhar’, ‘Navari Mile Navryala’
