Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, starring Alia Bhatt was to be wrapped up by the summer, but the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown brought the shooting to a halt. Now, the filmmaker, along with his leading lady is planning to resume work from October. According to a report in a news portal, in the first post-pandemic schedule, the team will shoot solo scenes of Alia Bhatt and other sequences that require fewer people. The report also added that some cheat shots will be employed, which will be corrected later at the VFX stage.
Bhansali reportedly does not want to compromise on the scale of the product so he has decided to shoot the more elaborate scenes later. The set is currently being fixed and sanitised for an October shoot. However, the director is yet to determine the final dates.
After the shooting was stopped in March, the grand set of the film that recreated Kamathipura brothels of the 60s was pulled down before monsoons. Currently, only the relevant portions of the set remain standing at a film studio.
‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is adapted from one of the stories in Hussain Zaidi’s book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’. Rumour has it that television actor Parth Samthaan has been cast opposite Alia in the film. However, there has been no official confirmation on the same.
Apart from this, Alia Bhatt will next be seen in Ayan Mukerji’s ‘Brahmastra’ co-starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. She also has projects like SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ and Karan Johar’s ‘Takht’ in her kitty.
